Superman v Batman full trailer

Jimmy Kimmel scores again with a full 3 minute preview of Superman v Batman.

Initial impressions are, they should be glad they are not going up against Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.

I keep remembering the arguments growing up about which was better, Marvel or DC? I tended to like DC because my favorite comic at the time was New Teen Titans, while everyone else loved The Uncanny X-Men.

I feel like that question is once again being posed, but this time I am on the other side of things.

Look, since the first Iron Man in 2009, Marvel has been diligently and methodically building out their world.   From Tony Stark to Steve Rodgers to Thor we have seen these character go from non hero to hero.

From the trailer, it appears as if these characters are already fully formed and none are heroes in the ways we are used to the word.  Bruce Wayne has been a Batman for some time now and he is dark.  Clark Kent was Superman in the last movie and in it he killed General Zod as well as start a war in downtown Metropolis.  Then from what we see of Wonder Woman, she just shows up in costume.

In addition, behind the scenes Marvel has  used people who are known to be comics aficionados like Joss Whedon and Jon Favreau.  And they have a strong overseer in Kevin Feige who has kept things on track.  Whereas DC is leaving it up to each director to do their own thing.

So, my impression is — the movie is probably like an X-Men movie.  It looks great, it has great characters (except for the awful Lex Luthor and the cringe worthy Lois Lane) and it looks like a lot of action.  There are still a lot of unknowns.  Cyborg and Aquaman have yet to be seen which could make or break things.   I think it will make a ton of money at the box office.  But will it do Marvel money?  Will it be enough to carry independent movies like the future Aquaman and Wonder Woman?  That is a tough call.
