Big news from Microsoft this week. Making headlines was the near complete Windows 10 and its new hybrid Windows 7 and 8 features (sorry, no Windows 9) as well as the free upgrade users of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users will have.
But somewhat buried in all this is a new hardware tech from Microsoft called Hololens. Hololens will complete with other so called virtual reality devices such as Oculus (Facebook), Gear VR (from Samsung) and Sony’s upcoming device, Project Morpheus.
But Microsoft’s answer to this emerging and competitive field is a device that creates a “heightened” reality. So instead of a fully immersible world, you have a real world that is punctuated by virtual elements.
Will 2015 be the year of virtual reality, Dolby Atmos and 4k? Stay tuned…
